How to Apply
Applying is easy. Just remember this: whether you plan to attend a post-secondary school on a full-time or part-time basis, you apply for student financial assistance through your province or territory of permanent residence.
The Government of Canada and most provincial or territorial governments work in partnership to deliver federal and provincial student loan and grant programs. These partnerships help simplify the process for you to apply for, manage, and repay your student loans.
- British Columbia, Alberta, Manitoba, Nova Scotia, and Prince Edward Island — Canada Student Loans are available alongside provincial or territorial student financial assistance.
- Saskatchewan, Ontario, New Brunswick, and Newfoundland and Labrador — The Government of Canada and the provincial governments partner to provide financial assistance jointly through Integrated Student Loans.
- Nunavut, the Northwest Territories, and Quebec — Canada Student Loans are not available. These jurisdictions operate their own student loan programs.
- Yukon — Only Canada Student Loans are available to permanent residents of the Yukon.
Note to Part-time students: Only the Government of Canada offers Canada Student Loans and Canada Student Grants for part-time students.
When you apply and are eligible for a Canada Student Loan, you are automatically assessed for most Canada Student Grants, money you do not pay back.
Some provincial and territorial student grants may be available in addition to Canada Student Grants. Contact your province or territory’s student financial assistance office to learn more.
